What’s the Verdict: Pay Per Click Programs versus Nine Other Ways of Traffic Generation?
There are at least nine ways of getting traffic to your web site. Many of them are free. So why do you have to pay for traffic? It all depends. Some of the free traffic generation methods may not bring quality traffic to your niche. Most of the free methods take a lot of your time. Yes, you may have to spend a lot of time doing something in order to generate traffic.
I must admit that, with patience, some of the free methods generate very good traffic and can be very profitable. Pay per click traffic can also be very profitable when done properly. So how do you do pay per click advertising properly?
The bad news is that pay per click advertising has a steep learning curve. Pay per click advertising costs you money. If you go into a very competive niche, it can cost you lots of dollars. You can really lose out and give up easily. In the early days, there was less competition. Most marketers relied on organic traffic through search engine optimization (SEO).
This was good for the ‘few’ who ventured into pay per click programs. As more and more people discovered the quick results in pay per click programs, they started ‘flooding’ pay per click programs and the story changed. The pay per click programs also continued changing the rules making it harder for people to make quick money e.g. affiliate marketers now can no longer just point their ads to affiliate links - this is frowned upon by Google and the like (update: direct linking in Adwords seems to be allowed again, provided the display URL is for the ultimate destination i.e. not affiliate link). Yet there are a number of people still making good money, unfortunately you may not be one of them at the moment.
The bad news is when others make money but you don’t; when others tell you how easy it is without telling you how they are doing it. The bad news is when others are driving the latest cars and you are struggling to pay your rent..
The good news is that there is always a way to change things around. In math, we learned something called ‘mathematical iteration’. In simple terms, you may start off with an initial “wrong” guess, but you continue refining your guesses until you get the right answer or a near enough answer. I know of a pay per click program tool that helps out in iterating through your choices and getting to a near enough answer that will generate the right traffic to your site affordably. That’s the good news. It is not so good to your competitors. However if they get the tool before you, you may continue having the bad dreams…
